Gene was born in Tifton, Georgia to W.J. (Bill) and Marjorie Moore on March 22, 1946. In 8th grade, he moved with his family to Thomasville, Georgia, where he met Rosalind Taylor. They married while in college and were life-long partners for 56 years.
Gene started his career with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell, an accounting firm in Atlanta after graduating from Valdosta State College with a business degree in accounting. During this time (the Vietnam era), he served in the US Army Reserves as a medic. He later worked for AFLAC as the Assistant Chief Financial Officer in Columbus, GA traveling often to Japan, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, and other countries. Eventually Gene and Rosalind along with Rosalind's twin sister, Rosemary Auld and husband Jim, developed a beautiful resort-type RV park in Santa Rosa Beach, FL known as Emerald Coast RV & Golf Resort. After they retired, it was sold and is now known as Gregory E Moore RV Resort as part of Topsail Hill Preserve State Park. Gene and Rosalind then moved to Bluffton, SC to be near Rosalind's twin sister, Rosemary.
Gene was a kind and gentle southern gentleman with a subtle sense of humor. He was very generous to those he knew, always trying to "beat you to the check" if you went out to dinner with him and supporting causes about which he felt strongly. He was a gadget guy, especially electronic gadgets. He loved "southern food", especially fried chicken and boiled peanuts but not so much other kinds of foods! His daughter and grand-daughters will attest, "He was the best Dad and PopPop ever!" He was much loved and will be oh so much missed.
Gene leaves behind their beloved daughter, Donna Moore Marchand of Port Orange, FL, two grand-daughters Devann Marchand of Melbourne, FL and Cassidy Marchand of Charlotte, NC, a sister Cheryll Moore Morey (Michael) of Port Orange, FL, a sister-in law Rosemary Auld (Jim) of Bluffton, SC, a brother-in-law Russell Taylor (Caroline) of Thomasville, GA and many nieces and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalind Taylor Moore, their son, Gregory (Greg) Eugene Moore, his mother, Marjorie Stone Moore, his father, W.J. (Bill) Moore and his brother-in-law, Donald Taylor.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Gene in the chapel of Allen & Allen Funeral Home in Thomasville, GA on Saturday, March 18th at 11 AM with Reverend Paul Ballard officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Samaritan's Purse at
