Cate Galbraith Thompson celebrated her 100th birthday May 9th of this year with friends and family. On November 8th at her home in Thomasville, GA, she passed peacefully from this life to the eternal rest with God she had been looking forward to. She was born in May 9, 1919 in a rural home in what is now Gilchrist County, FL. At a young age her family moved to High Springs, FL where her father, Mac Galbraith, initially worked on the Railroad, and her mother , Laura Galbraith, taught public school both in High Springs and at Santa Fe High School where she was assistant principal. Cate worked for the Department of Forestry at U of F after graduating from High Springs High School in 1936. She later married Arthur Thompson, also of High Springs, who for many years owned and managed Thompson Hardware and also served as a City Councilman and Mayor of High Springs. Cate helped with administrative duties for the hardware store but also committed herself to supporting the activities of her children, which included scouting, 4-H and numerous school events. She was always willing to serve. She and her family were members of the High Springs Church of Christ. In 1994 she moved to Thomasville, GA to be with her family there and was an active member of the Cornerstone Church. She is survived by her sister, Rora Cox of Orlando, FL, her son, Dr. William (Bill) Thompson of Wilmington, NC and her daughter, Barbara (Babs) Thompson of Thomasville, GA. Also surviving her are four grandchildren, Lori Thompson of Atlanta, GA, Byron Thompson of Boston, MA, Kevin Thompson of Wilmington, NC, and Lillie Smith of New Orleans, LA, and seven great grandchildren. Her funeral will be Saturday, November 23 at 10 AM at the Cornerstone Church of Christ in Thomasville, GA conducted by Allen and Allen Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM. There will be a graveside service in High Springs, FL the same day at 3 PM conducted by Evans-Carter Funeral Home.
