Funeral services for Cecil Talmadge Brinkley, 79, of Thomasville will be held at the First Baptist Church Chapel, Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at 3:30pm. Rev. Marty Carnes will officiate and the interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Mr. Brinkley passed away on October 14, 2018. He was born February 20, 1939 in Greensboro, Georgia. He was the son of the late Gladys Almyra and Henry Ira Brinkley. With a Bachelor’s Degree from Berry College in Education, coupled with Masters-Six year Degrees from the University of Georgia in Mathematics and Administration, Mr. Brinkley was an accomplished educator and administrator with the GA Dept of Education. He completed his 40-year career at Heritage High School in Conyers, Georgia after being awarded the Carnegie Medal in 1999. This medal was presented to him for an act of heroism, saving an indeterminate number of persons from possible assault on May 20, 1999 during a High School shooting. Mr. Brinkley is survived by his children, daughter Robin Brewer and son-in-law Dr. Mark Brewer of Thomasville and son Matt Brinkley and daughter-in-law Jenny Brinkley of Athens; grandchildren, Liz, Chris, Paul, John, Rachel, Kellie, Harrison and Jantsen; great grandchild, Thomas. He was also survived by his siblings; Jewel, Melvin, Jimmy, Deborah, Charlie, and predeceased in death by siblings; Thelma, Sybil, Jesse, Eugene, Lurlene, Sandra, and Tracy. The family will receive friends at the First Baptist Church, 2:30pm, prior to the funeral services on October 17, 2018.
