Charles R. “Dicky" DeMott, 89, of Thomasville, Ga., died Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at his home with his family by his side. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 12, at First Baptist Church Sanctuary Thomasville, with Dr. Keith M Stewart officiating. A private interment will follow. Pallbearers will be Gene Lord, Merrell Lasseter, William Clark, Richard DeMott, Ken DeMott, and Todd Neal. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Thomasville Gideon Camp. 

A native of Colquitt County, he was born October 23, 1936, to the late Joseph Russell DeMott and Lurline Lewis DeMott. In 1979, he was named Director of the Thomas Area Technical School, and in 1988, he was named President of the newly renamed Thomas Technical Institute. He continued to serve the institution, later known as Southwest Georgia Technical College, through many years of expansion and growth until his retirement in 2000. Dicky was a faithful follower of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and actively served in many capacities at his home church, First Baptist Church, Thomasville, He was also very active in the Gideons at the local level, President of the Georgia Gideons at the state level, and traveled for the Gideons nationally and internationally as well. He enjoyed hunting, reading, and spending time in his garden, but his priority was loving his family and community well to the glory of His Lord and Savior. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Cora Belle Scales DeMott, grandson Stephen Michael Stewart, four brothers, Billy DeMott, J.R. DeMott Jr., Lewis E. DeMott; and four sisters, Patsy DeMott Tucker, Dorothy DeMott Morrow, Barbara DeMott McQueen, and Lila DeMott Barrentine

Survivors include his brother, Roy Phillip DeMott and his wife, Barbara, of Spartanburg, South Carolina; his son, Richard DeMott and his wife, Cindy, of Leesburg, Georgia; his daughters, Rhonda Neal and her husband, Todd, of Gretna, Nebraska, and Beth Stewart and her husband, Keith, of Thomasville Georgia; his grandchildren, Caitie Seaman and her husband, Nathan; Lauren Horvatich and her husband, Jonathan; Braden Stewart and his wife, Taylor; Hannah Stewart; Bethany Stewart; Sarah Katherine Lum and her husband, Jordan; Dustin Walker and his wife, Sara; and Cara Brittain and her husband, Collin; and his great-grandchildren, Brantley Horvatich, Addi and Charles Lum; Jonah, Abel, and Simon Brittain; Eloise and Dora Walker. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the funeral service at First Baptist Church, Thomasville. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Gideons International.
