Memorial service for Charles T. “Tom” Hill will be held at 11am on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at Allen & Allen Celebration of Life Chapel with Rev. Carrie Myers officiating. Tom Hill, age 83, of Thomasville passed away on May 13, 2023. He was born on April 13, 1940, in Thomasville to the late Conard and Hazel Hill. He was a graduate of Thomasville High School and went on to Young Harris College and Valdosta State College to earn his degree in history. Tom began his career as a high school history teacher in Bibb and Lee County before moving back to his hometown of Thomasville. Then, he became the curator and director of the Thomas County Historical Society where he served for 47 years. After his retirement he became a docent for Pebble Hill Plantation. Tom was a member of Thomasville First United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir for many years. He was a long-time member of the Thomasville Rotary Club where he was a past president and Paul Harris Fellow recipient. He loved history, reading, traveling, quiz shows, and dogs of all sizes and shapes. Tom is survived by his wife Elizabeth “Betsy” Adkins Hill of Thomasville, married September 7th, 2019; daughter Susan Hill of Hawkinsville; step-son Tony Adkins (Nicole) of Columbia, SC; grandchildren Mac McCutchen of Hawkinsville, Tommy Hill (Alyssa) of Lynchburg, VA, Preston Adkins (Myranda) of Columbia, SC, and Hailey Hamilton (Hunter) of Colorado Springs, CO; 4 great-grandchildren and one on the way; cherished friend Elva Buff of Columbia, SC; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Conard Hill and Hazel Powell Hill Watt, step-father Lindsey Watt, and brother Kent Hill. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
