Charles Howard (“Chuck”) Lucas passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 9, 2018, in Thomasville, Georgia. He was born in Mobile, Alabama, on October 29, 1938, the son of Charles A. Lucas and Mary Tennant Lucas. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Bible & Religion from Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas, and a Master’s degree in History from Mississippi
College, as well as a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Florida State University. Chuck loved the Florida Gators, hunting, music, traveling, and spending time with his family. He served in the ministry his entire adult life. His first ministry was at the Meadowbrook Church of Christ in Jackson, Mississippi, with his lifelong friend and mentor, Alonzo Welch. He also served churches in Miami, Florida, and Thomasville, Georgia. Chuck considered his most significant contribution to be his ministry at the Crossroads Church of Christ in Gainesville, Florida, from 1967-1985. It was there that he trained many others for the ministry. After moving to Thomasville in 1985, he became a Licensed Professional Counselor and worked at Archbold Northside and in private practice for many years. His passion for God, God’s Church, and his family will forever define his legacy. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Joy Lucas Hurley. He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Ann T. Lucas, 3 children, Leigh Ann Neyland (Blake), Allison Veal (Gene), and Jonathan Welch Lucas (Kim), 9 grandchildren, Luke Neyland, Lauren Veal Davis, Savannah Veal, Sophie Veal, Amelia Veal, Jess Lucas, Alyssa Lucas, Ada Smith, and Anne-Braxton Smith, and 2 great grandchildren, Kora Neyland, and Levi Davis. He is also survived by his aunt, Ada Tennant Saucier, his niece, Liz Hurley-Hargrove (Dave), his nephews Jay and Patrick Hurley, and his beloved dog, Dolly.
