Private services for Charles Jarrell Mitchell, Sr. will be held Thursday, June 11, 2020 at Laurel Hill. Jimmy Clanton will officiate. Born July 16, 1942, he was the son of the late Wynelle Griffin Mitchell and Eugene Augustus Mitchell. He served in the National Guard and was a member of First Baptist Church of Thomasville, where he served as deacon. Charles grew up and farmed in Metcalf, GA and was a plantation manager. He loved history, especially Thomasville history, and loved the outdoors. He enjoyed nature; his favorite pastime was watching deer, rabbits, and foxes play in his yard. He also enjoyed NASCAR. He is survived by his wife, Bernice Mitchell; his children Lynn Mitchell Bennett (Hal) of Valdosta, Charles “Chuck” Jarrell Mitchell, Jr. (Susan) of Thomasville, and Nannette Lee Mitchell of Valdosta; grandchildren Ruthie Griffin Bennett, Lindsey Halman Bennett, and Halley Elaine Bennett; siblings Deborah Mitchell of Tallahassee, and Edward Mitchell of Atlanta.
