Charlie W. Griffin, Jr., 75, of Thomasville, passed away on Monday, December 17, 2018, at Archbold Hospital. Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at Fredonia Baptist Church of Thomasville with internment in Fredonia Cemetery. Rev. Hugh Rockett and Rev. Judson Maxwell will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Allen and Allen Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 18, 2018.
Honorary pallbearers are Gerard Turner, Gene Hickey, Lyn Suber, P. C. (Corkey) Ellerbee, Jr., Andy Jones, and Donnie Howell. Pallbearers are nephews: Bahan Rich, Billy Rich, Jamie Coffee, Lance Parker, Heath Carnline, and Jerrod Shealey.
Mr. Griffin was born May 7, 1943, in rural Ochlocknee, GA, to Charlie W. Griffin, Sr., and Myrle Williamson Griffin. He was proud to have served his country in the United States Army in Vietnam from 1966-1967.
On November 18, 1978, at Summerhill Baptist Church of Boston, GA, he married Patricia Long Griffin who survives. Also surviving are their two sons: Charlie W. Griffin, III, (Trey) and his wife Elexis; and Brent D. Griffin as well as two grandchildren: Eleanor B. Griffin, (Ela) and Charlie W. Griffin, IV (Wil.)
Mr. Griffin and his father farmed together as third and fourth generation Thomas County farmers until his father's death in 1989. He and his sons formed Charlie W. Griffin, Jr., and Sons Farm and worked together as fourth and fifth generation Thomas County farmers. They were Thomas County's Farm Family of the Year in 2008. Their farm was chosen as Thomas County Soil and Water Conservationist of the Year in 2016.
Mr. Griffin was a member of Fredonia Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and Treasurer.
He is also survived by his sisters Elaine G. Rich and her husband John and Debra G. Parker and her husband Malory as well as brother- in- law Jimmy Coffee, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Jeanie & Mark Crittenden, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Linda G. Coffee.
