Services for Charlie Lewis Washington, 90, of Thomasville are at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 1 at Allen and Allen Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Bob Dixon will officiate and interment is in Laurel Hill Cemetery on 4th Street. Mr. Washington passed away peacefully April 28 at the Presbyterian Home in Quitman after a three year fight against leukemia. Born, Feb. 2, 1920, in Thomas County, he was the son of the late Riley Albert and Annie Marian Walden Washington. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving 4 years overseas during World War II. After coming home, he served 1 year in the National Guard. He retired from Sunnyland as a refrigeration mechanic and enjoyed his employment at Publix later in life. He was an amateur artist and an amateur genealogist but passionate in both areas. He participated in many 10 K runs and loved bicycling. He was a member of the Thomasville First Methodist Church. He is survived by a sister Mary Wills of Quitman; nieces and nephews, Elsie LaVinka, Emily Jordan, George Washington, Donald Wills, Bubba Wills, Mike Wills, Alan Washington, Martha Ann Geer, Glenys Smith, Gary Carnes, Baylis Carnes, Nellie Lawson, Hank Stringer, Janet Clark, and Ken Stringer. He was preceded in death by siblings, Nell Phelps, Betty Stringer, Evelyn Campbell, Walter Washington, Earl Washington and Raymond Washington; niece and nephews, Marian Washington, Becky Phelps and Lewis Washington. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Thomas County Public Library, 201 N. Madison Street, Thomasville, GA. 31792, Thomasville Genealogical History and Fine Arts Library, P.O. Box 1597, Thomasville, GA. 31799 or to the Lewis Hall Singletary Oncology Center, 116 Mimosa Drive, Thomasville, GA. 31792. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10 a.m. to11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Family and friends may sign the online guest register at www.allenfh.com .
