Clara Mae Moorman Clark
Services for Clara Mae Moorman Clark, 92, are at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 30, 2008, at Ochlocknee United Methodist Church. Mrs. Clark passed away Wednesday, August 27 at Brighton Gardens in Atlanta. Born on July 31, 1916, in Ambrose, she was the 11th of 12 children born to the late Dr. and Mrs. Ivy Moorman. She grew up in Douglas. She was married to Lowell Ernest Clark, who preceded her in death after 60 years of marriage. She received an Associate's degree from South Ga. College and a Bachelor's degree in Home Economics from Georgia State College for Women. She began her teaching career in Ochlocknee in 1938 and retired from Magnolia Middle School in 1978. During World War II, when men teachers were off to war, she became the first married women teacher at Ochlocknee Consolidated School. In the 1960's she facilitated in the peaceful integration of the Thomas County schools. She was an active member of the Ochlocknee United Methodist Church and the Women's Society of Christian Service. Survivors include sister, Ivylyn Jernigan of Douglas; son, Cary Terry Clark of Louisville, KY; daughter, Marilyn Danny Head of Marietta; grandchildren, Kelly David Webster, Heather Kyle McGrotty, Jennifer Colby Miller, Amanda Mike Rubel, Adam Head; six great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Visitors may sign the online guest register at
