Graveside memorial services for Clyde E. Norwood, 93, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, formerly of Thomasville, are at 2 p.m., Saturday, September 19 in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Mr. Norwood died on August 31, 2009 at his residence. He was born in Thomasville on February 1, 1916. He was the son of Wade Hampton and Maude Borland Norwood. He was married for 56 years to Jane Webb Norwood, who preceded him in death in 2000. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from the Postal Service in Thomasville in 1972 as Postmaster. He was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in Thomasville.
He is survived by two daughters: Jane Straka of Fayetteville, Arkansas and Martha Crouch Black of Louisville, Georgia. He is also survived by a son-in-law, Thomas L. Black; four grandchildren, Matthew David Straka and Andrew Norwood Straka of Fayetteville, Rebecca Jane Straka of Lawrence, Kansas and George Edward Crouch V of New York City and Louisville; 5 great-grandchildren; and first cousin, E. Wayne Weeks of Mendham, New Jersey.
