Cora Belle Scales DeMott, 83, of Thomasville, Georgia, passed away with her family by her side at her home on Sunday, January 3, 2021.
Cora was born in Gwinnett County and the daughter of Cletus and Thomas Scales. She was a graduate of Buford High School and Berry College. She was a retired Business Education teacher at Thomas County Central, served as treasurer of the Thomasville/Thomas County Retired Educators, and a part of the Delta Kappa Gamma organization in Thomasville. Cora was also a member of First Baptist Church Thomasville. She served in the Auxillary of the Gideons and as a state officer, alongside of her husband for over 40 years. Cora loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her family. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Stephen Michael Stewart. Survivors include her husband Charles Richard “Dicky” DeMott; daughters Rhonda Neal (Todd) of Nebraska, Beth Stewart (Keith) of Nashville; son Richard DeMott (Cindy) of Leesburg; grandchildren Caitie Seaman (Nathan), Lauren Neal, Braden Stewart, Hannah Stewart, Bethany Stewart, Sarah Katherine Lum (Jordan), Dustin Walker (Sara) , and Cara Brittain (Collin); great grandchildren Jonah Brittain and Eloise Walker; sisters Willia Jean Burchett and Bobbie Howell; brothers Jimmy Scales and Mac Scales.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, January 8, 2021, at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Thomasville. The viewing will be held for the family at 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. and the general public from 2 p.m.-6 p.m. on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Allen and Allen Funeral Home in Thomasville. Dr. Keith M. Stewart and Rev. Andy Daughtry will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Gideons International.
