Services will be held for Corinne Butler Brinson, 97, at 1:00 pm on Friday, July 13, 2018 at Jacksonville Memory Gardens and Cemetery in Orange Park, Florida. The Reverend Lee Waller will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the cemetery there. Mrs. Brinson passed away Sunday, July 8, 2018, at Camellia Gardens of Life Care in Thomasville, Georgia. Born October 21, 1920 in Farmington, New Hampshire to Charles Cleveland Butler and Jeanette Nafis, she graduated from Deering High School in Portland, Maine in 1938. She received her certification as a Registered Nurse after three years of training at the Maine Eye and Ear Infirmary, Department of Nursing in Portland, Maine. She obtained her license in the state of New York and worked at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City where she acquired her love of newborns and infants. Mrs. Brinson joined the U.S. Navy in Portsmouth, N.H. in December, 1942 serving as a nurse during World War II through July, 1946. She was in the Navy Reserves until March, 1951. While stationed in Mare Island, California she met Robert Jefferson Brinson, a submarine officer. They were married in Gainesville, Florida October 11, 1947. He preceded her in death on July 9, 2013. The couple lived in Gainesville, California and Miami, Florida before settling in Jacksonville, Florida where they lived for 55 years. They had four children, who all survive; Bonnie Brinson McMillan (Tommy), Betty-Ann Brinson Suggs (Charles), Robert Randolph Brinson (Pamela), and Jonathan Jefferson Brinson (Jacquie). Mrs. Brinson became licensed in Florida in 1948 and retired from St. Vincent’s Hospital in Jacksonville in December of 1985. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many, caring for friends with terminal illnesses. She loved babies and especially her time nursing with mothers and newborns. Her face lit up at the sight of her great grandchildren. In addition to her children, she is also survived by her grandchildren; Amy McMillan Stalvey (Jim), Stacey Suggs Keprios (Kris), Christopher Bennett Brinson, C. Brian Suggs (Jenny),Daniel Randolph Brinson (Logan), Philip Ryan Brinson, Keri McMillan Hopkins (Ben), and Christina McMillan Edwards (Caleb). A nephew, Richard Jefferson Anderson (Carolyn) and ten great grandchildren survive. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Ruth Butler Crain Veno and nephew James Peter Crain. She was fortunate to be surrounded by special caregivers, both at home and at Southern Pines and Camellia Gardens and the family is grateful to them. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Samaritan’s Purse or the Salvation Army.
