February 19, 1946 - October 9, 2014
Born in Macon, GA, raised in Miami, FL he turned his love of cars and anything mechanical into a long illustrious career. He retired in 1999 as the Chief Mechanic for the Hollywood Fire Department and moved to Cairo, GA. In his retirement he enjoyed his passion for cars by building street rods in his garage at home. He also took up wood working and created amazing pieces of furniture and wooden toys for friends and family. He was a kind and gentle soul, always willing to go above and beyond for family, friends and neighbors. He enjoyed the company of his 3 daughters but he absolutely loved being a grandfather. "Papa" was always photographed holding or playing with one of the little ones. They loved him and when they grew up and had their own children he loved being a great-grandfather as well. He was a beloved husband to his wife of 48 years. They were best friends and high school sweethearts. He was a cherished brother to his one surviving sister. They shared a bond from childhood that grew stronger as they grew older and supported each other through the passing of their parents and other siblings. He was a dearly loved father to 3 daughters of whom he was extremely proud. He was a stable and steady presence in their lives to the very end. He cherished his family and friends and his final thoughts and words were of them. He was a man of deep faith and we are blessed with the knowledge that we will see him again someday.

If anyone feels compelled, in remembrance of David, donations can be made to St. Jude’s or Raintree Village Children’s Home. He loved children and these charities were the ones he gave to every month.
