David Powell passed away peacefully Saturday night, November 16th, after a long battle with several health conditions. He is survived by his brother Ray, first cousins Debbie Wheeler and Leah McKay, partner Jim Servedio and many other friends and family. David graduated from Brookwood High School in 1986, attended Florida State University, and received degrees from Valdosta State, including multiple degrees in social work. Gifted with an encyclopedic memory, David was the family historian and could recount names, dates, and events with amazing clarity. In middle school and high school, he won many history medals. A talented singer, David was a member of the Music & Drama Troupe and sang in the choir at St. Thomas Episcopal. His performances of the Lord’s Prayer at midnight masses were memorable. David performed at TOSAC, in The Boys Next Door in which he played a social worker to a group of troubled young men, embodying his life of service. He also had a joyful spirit and a wonderful sense of humor that was enjoyed by those around him. Services will be held at St.Thomas Episcopal Church on Friday, November 22 at 11:00 a.m.
