David Walker Shea (63) passed away peacefully on April 12, 2025 after surviving 43 years as a quadriplegic. David, a native of Atlanta, was among the early patients at the Shepard Spinal Center following an auto accident in 1982. In 2010, he moved to Thomasville, Georgia, where he has resided ever since. David was gifted in computer operations and assisted several organizations in development of their IT networks. David was always on top of current events and enjoyed staying in touch with a group of his wonderful, lifelong friends. Even though his plight as a quad was made even more difficult with phantom pain and other complications associated with his paralysis, his warm and talkative personality was always evident. David didn’t let his handicap keep him down. With the help and improvisation of his friends and family, he was able to experience many outdoor pursuits like catching fish, taking deer, and bagging turkey. David was also very fortunate to have many capable and loving caregivers over the years. This, combined with the excellent medical care of the Archbold Healthcare system is no doubt a major contributor to his amazing longevity as a quadriplegic.
David is survived by four brothers, Mike Shea (Laura) of Thomasville, GA, Mark Shea (Susan) of Norcross, GA, Jeff Shea (Larisa) of Smyrna, GA and Pat Shea of Broomfield, CO as well as a sister Nancy Shea Quigley (Brian) of Roswell, GA.
A service, to be announced, will be held in Atlanta in the coming weeks.
