DeLouise Elbert Hurst Sr.
Memorial services for DeLouise Elbert Hurst Sr., 77, of Thomasville, will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 7, 2009, at Dawson Street Baptist Church, where he was a member. The Rev. Lee Waller and the Rev. Robert Ferrel will officiate. Interment will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery. The Grady Burgess Sunday School Class, Bob Cummings, Dennis Bannister, Ray Fletcher, Charles Haire, Fred Keadle, Don King, Paul Odom, Charles Thornhill, Reece Brookard, and Bill Giles will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. Mr. Hurst died on Thursday, December 3, 2009 at John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital, after a short illness. Born November 2, 1932, in Thomas County, he was a son of the late Hardy H. Hurst and Lilla Kay Hurst Morris. On February 14, 1953, he married Annette Sue Bennett who survives. He was a co-owner of B & H Electric Co, Inc., which began September 1968. He was a member of Dawson Street Baptist Church and the Grady Burgess Sunday School Class, where he enjoyed studying God's word and the fellowship with church families. He loved his church, family, friends, and his country very much. He had a deep love for a cup of black coffee, the outdoors, and his special place, "The Woods". He had a deep bond with "Brittany the Poodle", who enjoyed walks together in "The Woods', riding in the Black Truck and on the John Deere Gator together. The special loves of his life were his wife, Annette, and his children, Elbert, Lynn, Gale, and Vance. His interests included walking the Cherokee Lake trail, time spent in his Woods, camping, and cruising with family. His gardening and landscaping skills led to beautiful yards that were admired by many. Also, he loved decorating his home with many beautiful Christmas lights, which could be seen for miles and brought happiness to everyone. He was a war veteran and served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, from 1953 to 1955. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United States Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. It was an honor for him to serve his country. Survivors include his loving wife, Annette B. Hurst, of 56 years. His children Elbert Hurst, Jr., his wife Gloria; Donna Lynn Edwards, her husband Donnie; Gale H. Everett, her husband Charles M.; and Vance A. Hurst, his wife Joy, all of Thomasville. His grandchildren Michael Hurst Jackie Casey H. Buresi Thomas, Christopher Hurst, Katie Hurst, April Hurst, Dee Hurst Brandy, Holly Johnson Michael, Heather Edwards, Anthony Hurst Adrianna, Asayla Everett, Drew Everett, Madison Everett, Jennifer H. Rayburn Jeremy, Vance Alan Hurst, Jr. His great-grandchildren, Garrett Hurst, Caleb Hurst, Darienne Hurst, Raya Hurst, Alizee Buresi, Lawson Buresi, Aiden Edwards, R. J. Edwards, and Emma Grace Rayburn; and his sister, Christine Louise Odom of Jacksonville, FL.He was preceded in death by his siblings Albert Hurst, Annie Jewel Hurst, Jerry William Hurst, Carrol Aubrey Hurst, Mildred Hurst Carter, Leon Horris Hurst, Devearne Vernon Hurst and Goldie Hurst Rice. Memorial contributions may be made to Dawson Street Baptist Church, a charity of your choice, or flower memorials.
