A celebration of the life of Deoris Elizabeth Benton Vinson, 91, of Ochlocknee, GA will be held at 11: AM, Thursday, March 15, 2012 at Glad Tidings Assembly where she attended with Rev. Brent Welch Officiating. Grandsons will serve as Pallbearers. A private burial will be later in the afternoon at Little Ochlocknee Baptist Church Cemetery. She was a member of the Northwoods Church of God, Thomasville, GA. Mrs. Vinson passed away March 12, 2012 at her home. Born August 16th l920 in Thomas County, GA, she was the daughter of late H.P. and Elizabeth Busby Benton. On July 23, 1937 she became the bride of Ellis E. Vinson and was a loving wife for 65 years until his death in 2002.She was an avid Gardener who enjoyed growing her own vegetables and then preparing delicious meals for her family. She loved God and her church holding various positions over the years. She helped develop and was Director of a daycare center at Forest Hills Church of God. Her love for helping people especially children was further demonstrated by working with developmentally challenged children at Thomas/Grady County Training Center from which she retired in 1984. She was a beautiful quilter and appreciated the art of taking scraps of material and turning them into gorgeous designs for quilts and wall plaques which now grace the homes of her family and friends. She was a fantastic cook who loved to share her "12 layer chocolate cakes". She taught her daughters and grandchildren how to cook "Chicken & Dumplings" and "Homemade Biscuits". She is survived by four daughters -Clarice and Rev. James Weaver, Dublin, VA; Sue and Lewis Garfield, Ochlocknee, GA; Judy and W.L. Carter, Ochlocknee, GA; Wanna and Rev. Walter Singletary, Clarkville, GA. Nine Grandchildren -Rev. Alan Lisa Weaver, Hamilton, OH; Rev. Scott Kami Weaver, Jackson, MS; Kelly Weaver Brian Bishop of Pulaski, VA; Kimberly Banks Bruce Pollard, St. Petersburg, FL; Shannon Banks, Panama City, FL; Joel Alicia Carter, Thomasville , GA; Lynn Carter Greg Arline, Whigham, GA; Derek Carol Singletary, Athens, GA; Mandy Singletary Jared Kelso, Atlanta, GA. and twenty great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters- Evelyn Roberts, Destin, FL; Marie Kirby, Barnwell, SC; Brothers -Wesley Benton, Apopka, FL; James L Benton, Greenville, S.C; and Eugene Benton, Melbourne, FL and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by son-in-law, Wendell Banks and siblings Albert Benton, Mytrice Bloodworth, Ruby Loyd and Margaret Lairsey. The family request in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Glad Tidings Academy Day Care Center, P.O. Box 978, Thomasville, GA 31799 or to a Christian Mission Organization of your choice.
