Dianne "Dee" Cooper Evans, 92 of Thomasville passed away on March 19, 2024. Dianne was born on February 15, 1932, in Hollywood, CA to the late Ralph and Shirley Cooper. She married the love of her life, Emery Evans on February 28, 1954, at Ochlocknee Methodist Church. After 70 years of marriage, this couple was truly the epitome of "two become one".
In her earlier years, Dee was crowned Miss Thomas County in the late 1940s. In the early 60s, she taught modeling and etiquette in Jacksonville, FL In 1967 she was crowned Mrs. Golden Isles, and was 1st runner up for Mrs. Georgia. She also hosted "Around the Chuck Wagon with Dee", a radio program that aired on Emery's WLOP in Jesup, GA. The collection of recipes from her listeners resulted in her first published cookbook titled After the Program. Her love for recipes and cooking was sparked by this and she went on to write six more cookbooks.
Later, she became the chef for three different plantations: Gillionville Plantation, Albany, GA, Horseshoe Plantation, Tallahassee, FL, and Pinion Point Plantation, Dixie, GA. Later she became the personal chef for the late Jack Dorrance, owner of Campbell Soup Company, and the family resided in Gladwin, PA. In the 1980s, She also owned and operated a bakery in Monroe, NC.
Dianne read cookbooks like a novel and had a very impressive library which she loved to spend time organizing and adding to.
In retirement, she continued reading cookbooks almost daily right up to the end. She loved her family dearly and loved seeing any of them walk through the front door. She loved being a wife and mother and will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her husband Emery Evans; her daughters Tracey Lynn Scoggins (DL) of Thomasville and Shirley Katherine Smith of Thomasville; her sons Emery Jay Evans of Hickory, NC and David Thomas Evans of Austin, TX. Her sisters, Lisa Cooper Taylor of Moultrie, Lindy Hitt of Veda, and Cindy Cooper of Donaldsonville, followed by 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her daughter Tisha Dianne Manuel, her sons Timothy Dane Evans and Cooper Green Evans, and her brother Ralph Waldo Cooper Jr. (Wally).
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
