Services for Dorothy Faye Sweat Kirkland, 87, of Thomasville are 1 PM, Friday, October 24, 2008 at First Assembly of God where she was a member. Pastor Henry Lewis and Rev. David Lamb will officiate and interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Ms. Kirkland died October 19, 2008 at Archbold Hospital. Born April 25, 1921 in Blackshear, Ga, she was the daughter of the late William Sweat and Rosetta Stokes Sweat. On October 3, 1937 she married J.D. Kirkland, Sr., who preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and an ordained minister. Survivors include daughter Geraldine Smith of Cartersville, Ga, son Gaines Kirkland of Milton, Fl, son Durrell Kirkland of Ormand Beach, Fl, daughter Dorothy Showket of Napa Valley, Ca, son Malcome Kirkland of Americus, son J.D. Kirkland Jr., of Palm Coast, Fl, 21 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 19 great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by son Vernon Kirkland, brothers William Arthur Sweat, Marion Leroy Sweat, Archie Sweat, Osie Sweat, Durseal Sweat, Ienly Sweat, sisters Cendie Sweat, Clarenell Sweat, Alma Sweat, Zetta Sweat, The family will receive friends 6-8 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
