Services for Dorothy Hines Briggs of Thomasville are at 11:00AM on Saturday, August 26, 2006 at Dawson Street Baptist Church where she was a member. The Rev. Lee Waller will officiate and interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers are Steve Barronton, Earl Wetherington, Charles Thornhill, Albert Blankenship, Lee Godwin and Gene Davis. Mrs. Briggs died August 24, 2006 at her residence. Born January 15, 1928 in Americus, GA she was the daughter of the late Oliver Underwood Meeks, Sr. and Daisy Delle Howard Meeks. On June 17, 1955 she married James R. Bobby Hines, Sr. who preceded her in death. Then on January 6, 2001 she married Jack Briggs who also preceded her in death. Mrs. Briggs was retired from R. & H Roofing and Sheet Metal Company in Thomasville. She was a Girl Scout Leader, Docent at Thomas County Historical Society, a Pink Lady at Archbold Memorial Hospital for 15 years, a volunteer for Scott Elementary School and a active member of the Ruth Sunday School Class. Survivors include daughter, Dorothy Del Lewis Baily of Sharpsburg, GA, sons and daughters-in-law, Ted and Kim Lewis of Branford, FL, Kevin and Debora Hines of Thomasville, daughter and son-in-law, Laney Hines Chambers and Charles Chambers of Thomasville, son and daughter-in-law, Dr. James R. Robin Hines, Jr. and Kim Hines of Warner Robins, GA; grandchildren, Kris Lewis Guilliard, Jennifer Lewis Bell, Beth Lewis Lightfoot, Courtney Del Bailey Punton, David Hines, Jon Hines, Josh Hines, Jimmy Wiggins, Melissa Hines, Ashley Hines, James R. Bobby Hines, III; great grandchildren, Daniel McGee, Austin Hudson and Aislyn Del Evans. A brother, Billy Howard Meeks, sister, Beteglyn Meeks and brother, Oliver Underwood Meeks, Jr, preceded her in death. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southwest Georgia, 818 Gordon Ave., Thomasville, GA 31792. The family will receive friends on Friday from 7-9PM at the funeral home.
