Dorothy Thompson Pitts of Thomasville, a beloved member of the community, passed away on December 31, 2023, at the age of 73. Dorothy was born on November 23, 1950, in Albany, GA to the late George and Hermine Thompson. She was known for her unwavering commitment to her family, her strong work ethic, and her passion for helping others as a social worker for many years with the Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS).
Dorothy, a dedicated individual, earned her bachelor's degree in sociology at Valdosta State College and later went on to dedicate her career to improving the lives of those in need through her work at DFCS. Her tireless efforts and caring nature made a lasting impact on the lives of countless families in her community.
Outside of her professional life, Dorothy was a member of First Baptist Church of Thomasville, where she actively participated in various church activities. She served as the Women's Missionary Auxiliary (WMA) director and greatly enjoyed attending her Sunday school class. Her dedication to her church community was further demonstrated through her commitment as a choir member for numerous years, exemplifying her passion for serving others.
She is survived by her husband Gene Pitts; son Gary Arthur Pitts of Tallahassee; daughter Jessica (Betsy) Garbett and husband Clint of Boston; her sister in-law Kay Thompson of Columbus; brother in-law Robby Pitts and wife Shannon of Moultrie, brother in-law Craig Pitts and wife Deborah of Moultrie; grandchildren Frank Colton Garbett, Elizabeth Claire Garbett, and George Cohen Garbett.
She was preceded in death by her son Billy Thompson Pitts, her brother George Herman Thompson, and brother in-law Jamie Pitts.
A service will be held to celebrate the life of Dorothy Pitts, 11am Thursday January 4th, 2024 at First Baptist Church of Thomasville Sanctuary. Pastor Paul Ballard will officiate with burial at Laurel Hill cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday January 3rd, 2024 from 5-7pm at Allen & Allen Funeral Home.
