A family memorial service in honor of Mrs. Dorothy Remington Culbreth, 84, of Thomasville is at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 25, 2008, at Mexico Beach, Fla. Mrs. Culbreth died Thursday, October 16 at her residence at Southern Pines Retirement Home in Thomasville. She lived in Rome, Georgia, since 1952, and had recently moved to Thomasville due to illness. A native of Statesboro, Georgia, she was born on August 25, 1924, the daughter of the late Charles H. and Lottie F. Remington. She was married to Dr. Ernest Wayne Culbreth on June 13, 1943. Mrs. Culbreth was a graduate of Georgia Teachers College, now Georgia Southern University, and was listed in Who's Who among Students in American Universities and Colleges in 1944-1945. A longtime Rome resident, Mrs. Culbreth served as President of Floyd, Polk, and Chattooga Counties Medical Auxiliary. She was a member of the Junior Service League of Rome and was a charter member and former chairman of the Coosa Valley Technical Institute Board of Directors. Mrs. Culbreth was a member of First Baptist Church of Rome, where she had served as Bible Study teacher. Survivors include sons, Dr. Danny Culbreth and wife, Andrea, David Culbreth and wife, Karen of Thomasville and Dr. Jeff Culbreth and wife, Susan of Rome. Eight grandchildren, Ashley Greg Shepherd, Til Leanne Culbreth, Katy Derek Willis of Thomasville, Chad Culbreth, Ann Marie Culbreth and Brent Culbreth all of Rome, Georgia, Drew Kristin Culbreth and Sarah Culbreth of Melbourne, Fla.; four great-grandchildren, Jake Shepherd, Brinson and Katybeth Willis and John Daniel Culbreth. She was preceded by two sisters. Memorial contributions may be made to Thomas County Historical Society, 725 N. Dawson St., Thomasville, GA 31792.
