Dorothy Dot Jordan Sanders

October 6, 1921 — April 30, 2012

Dorothy Dot Jordan Sanders pronounced "Jer-dan", not "Jor-dan, beloved mother and aunt, died April 30, 2012. Born October 6, 1921, and raised in Fort
Valley, Georgia, the 3rd of 4 children of Lila Kilcrease and James Gordon Jordan. Husband James Earl Sanders, sisters Vera and Betty, and her brother Blake
preceaded her in death. She is survived by her son, Richard Wright Sanders and his wife, her treasured daughter-in-law, Vickie Bickel Sanders. Although she
was known to many as "Aunt Dot," she is survived by actual nieces and nephews Anita, Mark, Elaine, Lee, Pam, Jeff, Bobby, Sherrill, and Lyn. In 1941 she rode the train to Thomasville to work for Sinkola Plantation and never left. She worked for Stern Tittle, who became a life-long friend, looking upon her as a daughter, and introducing her to her future husband. In 1949 she married James Earl Sanders, and in 1954 their only child, Richard Ricky Wright, was born. Dot was a multi-talented 1950s/60s housewife and mother, doing laundry, cooking three meals a day, and gardening the 5-acre yard at their residence on Tallahassee Road. She also began her 57-year association with the Briarcliff Garden Club and Thomasville Women's Club at this time. She served in various offices of both for many years, representing them at state and national conventions over the years. When Earl died in 1981, Dot maintained her club and First Methodist Church activities for many decades and also watched over Stern in his final years, until his death in 1987. She was the model wife/mother/friend. To her husband she was a lively,
vivacious companion ready for anything, while providing a stable home life. To her friends she was dependable and trustworthy, and a barrel of fun. To her son she was simply the best mother possible: kindhearted, strict but not too strict, understanding, usually sacrificing her own needs to put his first. Her last years were spent around friends and family, doing the things she loved: working crosswords, going to her house in Panacea, hitting The Plaza with The Good and Evil Garden Club, and generally having a "high ole time" well into her eighties. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 2nd, at Thomasville First Methodist Church at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Thomasville Garden Club Inc., P.O. Box 1273, Thomasville, GA 31799; or First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 975, Thomasville, GA 31799. Guests may sign the online register at www.allenfh.com
