William H. Floyd

Services for Dr. William H. Floyd, 69 of Thomasville will be held at 2pm, Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Dawson Street Baptist Church, where he was a member. Rev. Lee Waller will officiate and interment will follow at Sunset memorial Gardens. Mr. Floyd passed away August 9 at Archbold Hospital. Born August 9, 1947 in Thomasville, he was the son of the late Clarence and Leila Simpson Floyd. In 1969 at Dawson Street Baptist Church he married Linda Gail Godwin Floyd who survives. He received his bachelors degree from Valdosta State College, his Masters in music from New Orleans Theological Seminary and his doctorate from Andersonville Seminary. He served at many churches in South Georgia and North Florida for 25 years as minister of music and youth and then 25 years as a pastor. He also served as director of missions in Florida and he was administrative assistant to the vice president at the Baptist College of Florida. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing. Other survivors include his children, David Michael Floyd and wife Penny of Jacksonville, Florida and Amanda Rachel Floyd Morey and husband Brett of Lake Placid, Florida: grandchildren, Anna Floyd, Christopher Floyd, Ethan Floyd, Jaime Floyd, Carrie Floyd, Jordan Morey and Joshua Morey; brother, Clarence Floyd, Sr and wife Carolyn; sister, Rebecca Vick and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sister, Orena Lynch.
