DR. DAVID ARTHUR CULLISON
Services for Dr. David Arthur Cullison of Thomasville, GA are at 10:00AM on Saturday, August 27, 2005 at The First United Methodist Church in Thomasville. The Rev. Burns Willis and the Rev. Bob Dixon will officiate and interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Dr. Cullison died August 24, 2005, as the result of heart failure. Born September 29, 1946 in Auburn, AL, he was the son of Arthur and Correnne Cullison. In 1950 the family moved to Athens, GA, where David spent his formative years. After graduating from Athens High School in 1964, he attended the University of Georgia, earning Bachelor of Science and PHD Degrees in Organic Chemistry. He was selected as a Fellow in research with the National Institute of Health while earning a Post Doctorate Degree in Organic Chemistry at the University of Chicago. Following a position as a research chemist with Squibb Pharmaceuticals in Lawrenceville, NJ, he earned his medical degree through the PHD-MD program at the Medical School of the University of Miami. He was senior resident in Dermatology at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta before moving to Thomasville in 1982 and opening his Dermatology practice. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi academic fraternities and the Pi Kappa Phi social fraternity at the University of Georgia. He served his country honorably as a Captain in the United States Army Chemical Corps. David found great pleasure in the joyous moments he shared with his children and seven grandchildren. He developed lasting friendships with many of over 7000 patients he treated in his 23 years of practice. He loved the beauty of the north Georgia mountains and scenic boat rides at his home at Lake Santeetlah, NC. An aficionado of 50?s doo-wop music, he took great pleasure in singing his favorites often at the expense of family members.
David is survived by his wife, Barbara Cullison, daughter and son-in-law; Deborah & Chris, daughter, Catherine, son and daughter-in-law, David & Jakki, seven grandchildren; William, Preston, Christopher, Tyler, Evans, Mary Catherine, and Kendall, all of whom live in Thomasville, and his brother Joe Cullison of Macon, GA. He is preceded in death by his father, Arthur Cullison, his mother Correnne Pence Cullison, and his sister Diane Pence Cullison. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southwest Georgia, 818 Gordon Ave., Thomasville, GA 31792. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-9PM on Friday.
