Dr. Oeland Reese Parker, Jr., 59, died July 3rd in Thomasville, Georgia. He was born in Tallahassee on September 27, 1944 to Julia C. Ferrell Parker and Oeland Reese Parker, Sr. He received his Bachelorâ??s 1965, Masterâ??s l967, and Ph.D. l974 from Florida State University.
His career path led him from the FSU University School to Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Syracuse University, where he served as Chief of Party for a technical assistance team working with the Indonesian Ministry of Education in Jakarta l977-l979, Illinois Governorâ??s Planning Council on Developmental Disabilities in Springfield, Illinois 1979-1981, Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho, where he became Dean of Professional Studies 1982-1996, University of Brunei Darussalam, Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei to August 1999. At the time of his death he was Dean of Professional Studies at Thomas University.
He married Rae Lombard in 1996. She survives at their Thomasville home. He fathered three children: Leslie and Morgan of Thomasville and Alan Ahyani of Lewiston, Idaho. One grandchild, Kiley Parker resides in Chico, California. His only brother, Joel Parker, resides in Titusville, Florida. Mourners include in-laws, a paternal aunt, nieces and nephew, numerous cousins and close friends across the U.S.A. and Southeast Asia.
Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. July 6th at Springhill Methodist Church, Springhillp Road in Thomasville with inurnment to follow at the site. John Hutchison, President of Thomas University will officiate. Dr. Parker was an organ donor. His ashes will be divided, with a portion buried in Thomasville and the remainder to be scattered over Selway Falls in Idaho.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Reese Parker Memorial Scholarship benefiting the Masterâ??s in Education degree program at Thomas University.
