Edna McMillan Benson
Services for Edna McMillan Benson, 87, of Thomaville, are at 2 p.m., Saturday, August 18, 2007 at Allen & Allen Funeral Chapel. Pastor Ken Webb will officiate and interment is in Ochlocknee City Cemetery. Mrs Benson died Wednesday, August 15. Born June 20, 1920, in Ochlocknee, she was the oldest daughter of the late John Griff and Erna Moore McMillan. On December 20, 1947, in Lakeland, she married Gartrelle Rayford Ray Benson, who preceded her in death. A graduate of Ochlocknee High School and Andrew College, she taught third and fifth grades in Thomas, Lanier and Worth Counties. Later in life she worked at Southwestern State Hospital as a Health Service Technician, where she retired in April 1991 as a HST lead. She was a member of the Bold Springs Methodist Church. Mrs. Benson loved flowers, enjoyed fishing and "going", which she continued to do until her recent illness, with her very special friends, Christine Chesnutt and J. D. Lewis. Survivors include sister, Elizabeth M. Maddox of Ochlocknee; nephew, Gary McMillan; nieces, Terry McMillan and Sherry McMillan and numerous cousins, other nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and care-giver and friend, Dorothy Wilson, who was a special blessing and comfort. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Janet; son, Charles; and brother, Frederick E. McMillan.
