Graveside services for Edward Maseda, 83, of Monticello, Fla., are at 11 a.m., Friday, April 11, 2008, in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Minister Jean DeBarieris-Owen will officiate. Mr. Maseda died April 9 at the Big Bend Hospice House in Tallahassee, Fla. Born April 10, 1924, in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Eduardo and Felpia Maseda Sanchez. He was married to Flora Maseda, who preceded him in death. He was a US Army veteran. He retired after 30 years of service with the federal government. He lived at Sumter Retirement Village in Plains. He was truly loved and cared for by the staff and he enjoyed all the activities, especially Bingo. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Rita and Scott Slaughter of Valley, Ala. and Teresa and Walter Larick of Monticello, Fla.; grandsons, Derek Liles of Valley, Ala. and Orland Oliveras and wife, Nicole of Wilmer, Ala.; great grandchildren, Chelsea Oliveras and Wyatt Oliveras of Wilmer, Ala.; sisters, Gloria Cebollero, Mary Moreno and husband, Orben and Margaret McCarty; sisters-in-law, Dalia Aguilar and husband, Agustin and Violetta Fortes; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
