Edwin Lamar Thompson, Sr, 84 of Pavo passed away August 24, 2015 at his residence. Services will be held at 2:00pm, Thursday, August 27, 2015 at Antioch Baptist Church. Rev. Jon McLain will officiate and interment will follow in the Church cemetery. Sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Born January 25, 1931 in Brooks, County, he was the son of the late Willie C. Thompson and Ometa Cartlidge Thompson. He was married to Bernice Hiers Thompson who survives. Mr. Thompson was a veteran serving 4 years in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict and served 5 years in the Merchant Marines. He was a tug boat captain for 32. He was a lifelong member of Antioch Baptist Church where he sang in the choir and held various positions throughout the church. He loved music and could play several musical instruments. But most of all he loved God, his family and church family. Other survivors include his children, Carl David Thompson of Smyrna, Georgia, Edwin Lamar Thompson, Jr of Boca Raton, Florida, Donnie Thompson and wife Susan of Warne, North Carolina, and Karen Harrington of Boca Raton, Florida; step-children, Sheila Smith and husband Eddie of Moultrie, Rhonda Davis of Camilla, Janice Newsome and husband Ed of Moultrie and Michelle Cooper and husband Vance of Pavo; brother, Bill Thompson of Pavo; sister, Betty June Burton and husband Buddy of Stewart, Florida and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by daughter, Sharon Lalla. The family will receive friends 5-7 pm, Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at the funeral home.
