Elaine Walton Kavouklis, January 5, 1929 – April 7, 2020
Elaine Kavouklis, wife of the late Nicketas N (Nick) Kavouklis, was born in Crescent City, FL to Joe and Johnnie Walton where she lived with 7 siblings until going to Nursing School in 1947 – 1950 earning her RN certification. She began her career at Halifax Hospital in Daytona in 1950. She met her husband, Nick, while working as an ER Nurse in Daytona. The Kavouklis family moved to Thomasville in 1956.
Elaine lived a life of service to others. She was a loving, selfless, kind and generous mother and friend. She sacrificed everything for others.
Elaine worked as a Surgical Nurse and Recovery Nurse for Archbold Hospital, a school nurse at Thomasville High School, as a nurse for the Head Start Program and as a Nurse-anesthetists for Dr. Albert Tuck. Elaine would also volunteer to work holiday shifts for nurses with young children
She was a founding member of All Saints Episcopal Church and was a previous member at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. She was very active with the ECW and the altar guilds of both church’s taking pride in handling the Linen for the Altar. She was very instrumental in starting with the Annual All Saints Christmas Day Meal delivery for the elderly and the needy.
Elaine was also active in the community volunteering to cook for the annual YMCA spaghetti dinners and Pancake Suppers at St Thomas Episcopal and volunteering at the Red Cross blood bank.
Elaine was the mother of 4 children, Nicky, Michael, Cynthia and John. She was always loving, caring and supportive mother who was there for whoever needed her. Her life was busy with being a football mom for her 3 sons and a doting mother for her daughter. She was there for the tough times when her adult children needed her most during bouts with cancer and surgeries.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Johnnie Walton, her husband Nick, her son Nicky and her grandson Nick Gibbs. Her siblings Larry Walton, Joe Walton, Rebecca Walton and Wilhelmina Katterhenry.
She is survived by her son Michael (Ree) Kavouklis and grandchildren Amanda and Chris, her daughter Cynthia Kavouklis and grandchildren Leah Gibbs, Rachel Mason and great grandson Nicholas Mason, her son John (Jan) Kavouklis and grandchildren Olivia (Blake) Summers, Elaina (Mark) Johnson and Alisha (Hamilton Hogan) Kavouklis. Her siblings MaryJo Flowers, John Walton and Juanita Bacon.
A public Funeral Service will not be held at this time because of the Corona Virus outbreak. A memorial service to remember and celebrate the life of Elaine will be announced later. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the ECW of All Saints Episcopal Church in her memory would be appreciated.
