Eleanor Ruth Jones Schwellenbach, 100, of Tallahassee, died on July 2, 2016.
Ruth was born in Vienna, Georgia and grew up in Thomasville, Georgia, where she graduated salutatorian of her high school class. She attended Georgia State College for Women and graduated from the University of Georgia in Athens. During World War II, Ruth served in the American Red Cross in North Africa, where she met Henry John Schwellenbach, a naval officer serving in the Mediterranean theatre. They were married in 1946 in Thomasville.
During their marriage, the couple lived in Colorado, Nevada, New York and New Jersey. Henry died in 1979. Ruth lived in Maine for several years before moving to Tallahassee in 1994. Throughout her life, Ruth’s greatest joys were her loving family and her many dear friends, past and present.
Ruth was predeceased by her parents, Charles Horace Jones and Jamie Ruth Cheek Jones, her sister, Cornelia Jones, and her brother, C. Horace Jones, Jr. Ruth is survived by four children, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
At Ruth’s request, there will be no memorial service at this time. Burial will be in the family plot at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Thomasville, Georgia.
