Memorial services for Elizabeth Taylor Blackmon will be Saturday, December 27, at 3:00 PM at the First United Methodist. The Rev. Leigh Ann Raynor and Rev. Bob Dixon will officiate. The daughter of the late John Lewie and Emily Parham Taylor, Mrs. Blackmon was born in Durand, Ga. on May 5, 1918. Shortly after her birth, her family moved to Talbotton, Ga. In 1946, she married the late Ben Alexander Blackmon. She was a graduate of Bessie Tift College in Forsyth, Ga. Following college, she taught school in Geneva, Ga. and Waverly Hall, Ga. She attended IBM training school in Endicott, New York and worked for IBM setting up equipment and training business machine users for several years during and after World War II. Mrs. Blackmon later worked in the English and Admissions Departments of Birmingham Southern College in Birmingham, Al. Following the death of her husband in 1965, she moved to Thomasville. In Thomasville, she taught fifth grade and worked as a library assistant at Jerger School. She was an accomplished musician and taught piano in Thomasville for many years. Mrs. Blackmon was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Sue McTier Sunday School Class, the United Methodist Women, and the Keenagers, and a past member of the Altar Guild, and choir. She was a member of the Archbold Hospital Corporation and a former Trustee of the Thomasville Entertainment Foundation and a member of the Countess Vandal Garden Club. She is survived by a son, Dr. John Alexander Blackmon and his wife, Mrs. Dorian Tomlinson Blackmon of Thomasville; a sister Mrs. Lucile Taylor Donaldson of Griffin, Ga; a brother-in-law, Mr. W. Roy Donaldson of Griffin, Ga.; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Mary F. Taylor of Thomasville and Mrs. Cindy Taylor of Columbus, Ga. Also surviving are grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Blackmon of Huntsville, Al. and John Alexander Blackmon II and his wife Geri Garmon Blackmon of Thomasville; great grandchildren, Reagan Marie Blackmon and Emily Taylor Blackmon of Thomasville; several nieces and nephews. Her brothers John Myles Taylor and Dr. James Parham Taylor preceded her in death.
