Elmer Clayton Mims, Jr

August 20, 1935 — November 21, 2022

Elmer Clayton (EC) Mims Jr passed away peacefully on November 21, 2022, completing a full, productive 87 years of life.

Following a successful career in insurance which fostered family adventures all over the country, EC came home to Thomas County to retire. But always avoiding idleness, he found many outlets for his faith, call to service, and hobbies. EC was a deacon at Summerhill Baptist Church, President of the Exchange Club, founder and President of the Thomas County Shooting Range, and President of the Deep South Gas and Steam Engine Club. In later years, he could usually be found in his shop, restoring antique machinery. EC touched many lives through his friendship and selfless charity, constantly working to help others improve their lives in his own quiet way.

EC is survived by Kathryn Mims, his wife of 66 years. They were each other's first and only loves - inseparable. Other surviving family include his son Randy and wife Sarah, daughter in law Annette, and grandchildren Amanda, Kate, and Jake. He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Rick. There are no plans for a memorial service at this time. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Summerhill Baptist Church, c/o Cinda Mercer, 772 McKinnon Rd., Boston, GA 31626.
