Services for Elsie Harris Ramsey of Thomasville are at 2:30PM on Sunday, November 2, 2003 at the First United Methodist Church where she was a member. The Rev. Leigh Ann Raynor and the Rev. A. Bob Dixon will officiate and interment will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Ramsey died October 31, 2003 at Archbold Memorial Hospital. Born October 29, 1920 in Thomasville she was the daughter of the late James Harvey Harris and Blanche Elizabeth McDonald Harris. On October 23, 1938 in Thomasville she married Richard R. Ramsey who preceded her in death. Mrs. Ramsey was a homemaker and was active in her church and community as she raised a family. At First United Methodist Church, she served as president of the UMW, member of the administrative Board and Board of Trustees, and circle chairman. She served in many musical capacities: a long time member of the Chancel Choir, a recent member of the Keen-ager Chorus, a charter member of the Ladies Handbell Choir, a pianist for the Sue McTier Sunday School class and congregational pianist. She was music director and co-founder of Happy Times Kindergarten at FUMC. In the community she was active in the Garden Club, served as president of the American Legion Post 31 Auxiliary and on the Thomasville Entertainment Foundation Board, as well as on the YMCA board of directors. A knitter of newborn infant caps for the hospital nursery, she also volunteered as a Pink Lady at Archbold Memorial Hospital. Other survivors include a daughter, Lynn Ramsey Stowers; son and daughter-in-law, Richard R., Jr. and Deanna P. Ramsey all of Thomasville; grandchildren, Adrian Ramsey Stowers, Rosemary Ramsey Pearce and Stephen F., Richard R. Ramsey, III and Denise F., Rebecca Penland Ramsey and Robert Thomas Ramsey; great grandchildren, Jack Harrison Ramsey and William Benjamin Pearce; sister and brother-in-law, Janet H. and Wayne P. Sanders of Marietta, GA. and sister-in-law, Emmye R. Harrell of Whigham, GA. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 975, Thomasville, GA. 31799.
