Elton Eugene Goodrum

Graveside services for Elton Eugene Goodrum of Thomasville are at 10:00AM, Friday, September 15, 2006 at Laurel Hill Cemetery on Kentucky Street. The Rev. Leigh Ann Raynor, the Rev. A. Bob Dixon and the Rev. Waymon R. Cleveland will officiate. Mr. Goodrum died Sept. 12 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, FL. Born Feb. 8, 1940 in Eua Gallie, FL he was the son of the late Elton Shephard Goodrum and Dorothy Monger Goodrum. On June 21, 1964 in Colquitt, GA he married Helen Black Goodrum, who survives. He Owned Goodrum's Floor Coverings. He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he was a former secretary and treasurer for the Sunday School Department for 12 years. He graduated from Thomasville High School and attended Valdosta State College where he was president of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He was a former member and president of the Thomasville Jaycees. Other survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Gena and Michael Matthews of Tallahassee, FL; a son, Richard Eugene Goodrum of Atlanta; and grandchildren, Mattison Daniel Kelly and Abigail Alicia Matthews of Tallahassee, FL. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Chance Ashley Goodrum. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 975, Thomasville, GA 31799 or to the Methodist Home for Children and Youth, P.O. Box 2525, Macon, GA 31203-2525. The family will recieve friends from 6-8PM today at the funeral home.
