Emma Annie Lou Hunley Wurst
Services for Emma Annie Lou Hunley Wurst of Ochlocknee are Wednesday December 12, 2007 at 2:00 PM at Ochlocknee Baptist Church with Pastor Dennis Norman officiating. Born July 28, 1916 on Greenwood Plantation, she was the daughter of Carlton E. and Annie Lou Andrews Hunley. After graduating from McIntyre Park High School she worked for a year in Attapulgus. Returning to Thomasville, she was employed for over thirty years in the medical field. In 1939 she married John Crawford Wurst of Ochlocknee and for many years they lived in Sandy Springs, north of Atlanta. She became leader of Girl Scout Troop108, Flint River Girl Scout Council, and 9 of her girl scouts, including one from Thomasville and one from Cairo, attended the 1959 International Round-Up in Denver, Colorado, where the U.S. Air Force Academy was being built. After returning to Decatur, Mrs. Wurst returned to medical employment and became president of the Dekalb Chapter of the American Association of Medical Assistants AAMA, serving for two years. She was secretary of the Aldelphia Sunday School Class at the First Baptist Church in Decatur and secretary of the North Decatur Garden Club. Survivors include her sister, Bernice Massey of Claxton, GA, her brother- and sister-in-law, Clifton and Wylda Wurst of Meigs, GA, granddaughters Kristine Patten Charles and Courtney Kratz of Miami, FL, her niece, Aileen McNair of Moultrie, GA, Gerald and Peggy Kratz and daughter Elizabeth Gorgas of Miami, FL, and great-grandsons Charles and Conrad Patten of Miami, FL, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends from across the United States. She was preceded in death by her husband John Crawford Wurst, her daughter, Rose Wurst Kratz, her siblings Mary Elizabeth Hunley Baker, Rose Hunley McNair Kilgore, Carlton E. Hunley Jr., and Marion Bennett Hunley. It was Mrs. Wurst?s desire that donations in her memory be made to the Archbold Memorial Hospital, Gordon Ave. at Mimosa Dr., Thomasville, GA. 31792 and to Hospice of Southwest Georgia, 818 Gordon Ave., Thomasville, GA. 31792 in lieu of flowers.
