Services for Emmett Lee Odom, 89, of Thomasville are 11 am, Thursday, July 7, at Pineland Baptist Church. Rev. Johnny Cooper will officiate with burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Emmett Lee Odom beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to all, passed away peacefully Friday, July 1, 2011 just short of his 90th birthday at Intermountain Health Center in Salt Lake City, Utah while on vacation. He was born September 15, 1921 in Eatonton, Ga to Lewis LaFate Odom and Jessie Diette Bray Odom. He was married to Gliness G. Tyler Odom June 3, 1944 for 67 years and they have 5 children. Emmett worked at the Thomasville Fire Department where he retired after 30 years of dedicated service. He not only took pride in his hard and sometimes dangerous work, but truly loved the many friends he made during these years. His reputation as an honest, hard-working man led him to be honored by his family and his many friends. Emmett had a passion for fishing, gardening and life in general. For years he enjoyed raccoon hunting, fishing, raising and training hunting dogs and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by all. The Odom family wishes to express their gratitude to all those who have known and loved Emmett throughout his life. He is survived by his wife, Gliness of Thomasville; children Marilyn L. Odom of Moultrie, Jerry E. Odom and wife Debbie of Tallahassee, Larry Odom and wife Laurie of Sandy, UT, Keith Odom and wife Marylu of Atlanta and Kay Hardy of Cairo; 16 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; sister Lois Maese of Pensacola, Fl; cousins, nieces, nephews and many close friends. A special thanks to the very dedicated staff and doctors of the Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, UT who attended him.
