Eric Reed Sterling of Acworth, GA and formerly of Thomasville passed away peacefully Saturday following a lengthy illness. A service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 19 at Allen & Allen Funeral Home in Thomasville. This has been changed due to the inclement weather on Friday.
Born in Fort Dodge, Iowa, Eric moved to Thomasville in 1965 at age 7. He attended Thomasville City Schools, UGA and Lively Technical College. A CAD draftsman his entire career, he worked for several firms in Atlanta, most recently DUSTEX for 19 years.
Eric enjoyed several hobbies which included building structures around his home, stamp collecting, astronomy and extensive travel, often including a side trip to savor the local chili dogs. An avid outdoorsman, he spent his vacations hiking and camping in most of the national parks and historic sites across the country, eventually accomplishing his goal to visit all 50 states. He would often take his kayak or jet ski along to his favorite lakes and rivers. During those countless trips he developed a love for astronomy, passionately studying the stars and planets through his various telescopes and cameras.
Eric was preceded in death by his father Dr. Art Sterling and a brother, Brett Sterling. He is survived by his mother Kay Sterling Ford of Thomasville, his brothers Scott Sterling (Lynn) also of Thomasville and Blake Sterling of Fayetteville, GA, nieces Jennifer Sterling Sieben, Sarah Sterling Thurston, Emily Sterling and nephew Jeff Sterling as well as 5 great nieces and nephews.
Our family and friends will miss Eric greatly but are blessed to have walked the road of life with him.
