Services for Eugene Edwin "Gene" Barron, 94, of Pelham, formerly of Ochlocknee, are at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at Allen & Allen Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Mack Luke and Rev. Ronald Barrett will officiate and interment is in Meigs Sunset Cemetery. Mr. Barron died June 7 at Pelham Parkway Nursing Home. Born Sept. 20, 1914, in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Edwin and Irene Akridge Barron. He was married to Alpha Luke Barron, Alma Ree Holland Barron and Ozell Norton Benton Barron, who all preceded him in death. Mr. Barron was a retired Mechanic and a Veteran of the United States Navy. Survivors include children, David Barron and wife, Hilda of Whitesburg, Marvin Barron of Ochlocknee, Larry Barron and wife, Tesa of Ochlocknee, Merle Upton and late husband, Carl of Thomasville and Jimmy Barron of Douglas, WY; step-son, David "Gene" Benton and wife, Annie of Cairo; sister, Levasta Howell of Hartsfield; 18 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marjorie Thomas; and a son, Edwin Barron. The family will receive friends Tuesday at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Visitors may sign the online guest register at www.allenfh.com .
