Eugene White, age 84, went to be with the Lord Tuesday September 28, 2021. He passed away peacefully at his home in Thomasville surrounded by his loved ones. Eugene “Gene” was born May 2, 1937, in Thomasville, Georgia, to Steve White and Johnnie Ethel Kennedy White. Eugene was a graduate of Thomasville High School. He married Olga Davis White of Spence, Georgia on October 19, 1957. Together they settled in Thomasville and had two children; James White and Beverly Theobald. Gene was a hardworking man. He retired multiple times during his life time. He worked as the manager of the meat department with Big Star Foods for 23 years. He went back to school and obtained a certificate from Southern Regional Technical College in air conditioning & refrigeration systems. He then changed direction after retirement from Big Star Foods to work as an installation technician with Cone Machinery. Gene had an amazing work ethic and was happiest when he was called upon to do a complex job. He worked full time at Cone Machinery until his last retirement was completed at 80 years of age. After retirement, Gene and Olga enjoyed traveling together as well as spending time with family and friends. Gene enjoyed simple pleasures; chatting with friends and family, snacking, and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved gardening. He was known for his pepper jelly, sweet mild and delicious. But fair warning, if he said this batch has “a little heat” with a mischievous grin on his face. Gene was an active long-time member of Eastside Baptist Church of Thomasville. He loved the Lord and not only talked the talk; he truly walked the walk. Gene was married to Olga for 63 years as her beloved husband. His last words to Olga when she passed to heaven was, “I love you and I will see you soon”. Gene was proceeded in death by his wife Olga July 2021, a brother Leamon White, a sister Gladys White Castleberry and a granddaughter Kimberly Theobald. He is survived by a sister, Audrey White Strickland; a brother Rev John Eron White, a son James and his wife Casi, a daughter Beverly and her husband David Theobald, with 5 grandchildren; Becky, Hayley, Chris, Cole and Carson, 5 great grandchildren: Carly, Kayley, Tripp, Sean and Bellamy as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family and Friends Graveside services will be officiated by Rev John Eron White and Rev Sean Jacobs of Eastside Baptist Church with assistance by Allen and Allen Funeral Home. Services to be held on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 10 AM, Union Hill Cemetery, Spence, Georgia.
