Services celebrating the life of Farris ?Alan? George are at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 22, 2007, at St. Peter?s Anglican Church, 920 Thomasville Rd., Tallahassee, FL. The Revs. Jim and Shari Hobby will officiate. Mr. George died Tuesday, December 18, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital following an accident. He was married for over 30 years to Karla Stanley George. He is survived by his children: Rebekah George, and Crystal and Christopher George. His great passions in his life were his faith, his family, his church, and his music ministry.
Alan was the Parish Administrator at Trinity Anglican Church in Thomasville, GA, which he was instrumental in founding in October, 2006. He was a gifted musician, worship leader, youth leader, and Bible teacher. His gift of teaching and reaching youth and adults for Jesus Christ has changed the lives of countless people, and his music has touched the hearts of thousands over the years. Previously, he was an administrator and leader at St. Thomas Church and Day School for over 20 years. During his years of ministry, Alan served the church in many capacities and was a leader in state and national youth and adult programs and renewal movements such as Cursillos in Christianity, the Kairos prison ministry, Happening, New Beginnings, Youth Quake, Dynamos, Anglican 4th Day, and ACTS 29 Ministries. He served many local ministries including Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Community Transformation, and was always willing to share his gifts of leadership and music with our Christian community. Alan was also an avid outdoorsman and Eagle Scout.
Born May 23, 1955, in Gadsden, AL, he was a son of Farris and Sibyl George. Alan is survived by brothers and sisters: Sara and Chad George of Huntsville, AL; Ginger and Sid Waits of Jacksonville, FL, Kelli and Rick Stanley of Kansas City, MO, Catherine Stanley of Gadsden, AL, and mother and father in-law, Jodie and Charles Stanley of Gadsden, AL; numerous nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends. Preceding Alan in death were his father, his sister, Linda George, and his brother-in-law, Chuck Stanley.
The George family will receive family and friends on Friday, December 21, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Trinity Anglican Church which is located at the corner of Jackson St. and Pinetree Blvd. After the funeral service on Saturday, the family will greet friends at Trinity Place, Mercy Seat Rd., between Thomasville and Tallahassee. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to Trinity Anglican Church, Alan George Memorial Fund.
