A memorial service for Florence Edwina Hallman will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. at The Boston Presbyterian Church, located at 429 W. Jefferson St. in Boston, GA. Miss Hallman was born in Greensboro, NC on August 31, 1929 to Little Lewie and Edwina McGowan Hallman and died on June 19, 2014 at her residence.
Miss Hallman graduated from Greensboro College with a Music degree and later attended Northwestern University. She then moved to Washington D.C. where she worked with a psychologist and co-authored the book A Preliminary Investigation into the Utilization of Music as Therapy into the Area of Psychoneurosis in Children in 1956. In the late 1970s Miss Hallman moved to Boston, Ga to be closer to her family. She began offering private piano lessons and became the organist for The Boston Presbyterian Church until her retirement. Miss Hallman also worked with Waddell & Reed as an administrative assistant for 20 years.
Miss Hallman was preceded in death by her parents and by her uncles, Spence H. Hallman and Roy R. Hallman. Survivors include her aunts, Frances P. Hallman and Eleanor T. Hallman; and first cousins Ann McGowan Davis, Mary McGowan Hutchens, the Rev. John L. McGowan, Sam McGowan, Sue McGowan Lewis, Bill McGowan, Virginia Hallman Fabro, Judy Hallman Catrett, Eileen Hallman Mills, Mark Ian Hallman, Betty Hallman Hoskins, Joy Hallman Hurst, Alice Hallman Durham and their families.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Thomasville-Thomas County Humane Society at 180 Big Star Drive Thomasville, GA 31757.
