Frank Mims Clark

May 1, 1943 — January 4, 2017

Frank Mims Clark of Upper St. Clair, PA passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2017. He was born in Boston, GA on May 1, 1943 to the Late Fred Clark and Marion Mims Clark. He married his bride, Irene Norton Clark, 48 years ago. He was an incredible Dad to Pamela Clark Heyler (Scott) and Karen Clark Garrett (Brad). His greatest joy was being a Papa to Benjamin, Cody, and Jessica Heyler and Joseph and Luke Garrett. He is the brother of James F. Clark and Mary Fowler. He is survived by many relatives, including Irene’s sisters: Darlene, Lisa, Glenda, Rahn, and was predeceased by Louise. Frank was an avid golfer and truly enjoyed teaching his grandchildren to play the game and to drive the golf cart. The highlight of every summer was taking them to Hilton Head Island, SC.
Frank’s successful business career spanned over 40 years. He earned his BS in Industrial Engineering from Auburn University, “War Eagle”, and his MBA from Samford University. He worked his way up through US Steel Company during his 30+ year career there. He spent time working as a Plant Superintendent, Plant Manager, and General Manager in locations across the United States dealing with day-to-day management, union issues, supply chain management, team building, and strategic planning. During his time at Corporate Headquarters, he was the General Manager for Purchasing. In this role, he facilitated planning at all steel facilities to include marketing and support functions.
In the 2000 timeframe, he transitioned to work as the Senior Vice President for MAGLEV, Inc. In this position, he worked to make the Pittsburgh, PA Maglev High Speed Train Project the number one project of its type in the US. He was an initial member of the team that traveled to Shanghai, China to see how the Maglev technology was being utilized and then brought that knowledge back to Pittsburgh in order to develop the concept from the ground up in the US.
In the community, Frank was an Elder at Westminster Presbyterian Church, the District Boy Scout Chairman for Allegheny County, and the President of the National Association of Purchasing Management. He also served in the Alabama Air National Guard for 8 years. Frank’s leadership, team building skills, unflappable demeanor, and business savvy were the key to his long success in business and community projects. His presence and insight will be sorely missed by all who knew him. The world has lost an extraordinary man.
