Frank Lewis Norton

Services for Frank Lewis Norton of Boston will be at Boston Baptist Church on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. The Reverend Tim Phillips will officiate and interment will be at Boston Cemetery. Mr. Norton passed away on January 27, 2008. He was born in Boston, GA on October 13, 1924. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Groverstein Norton and Pearl Rahn Norton, also, by his stepmother, Ola Pitts Norton, and his brother Hugh Grovenstein Norton.
Frank married Margaret King Norton, the love of his life, who survives him, on January 10, 1947. He was one of the last members of the last mounted horse Calvary Units in the U. S. Army. He was a consummate horseman and joined the 124th Calvary in December 1942. He trained at Fort Brown, TX and rode many horses, many of whom were known only by their military numbers. He served as a scout for his unit in China and Burma where he saw extensive combat as his unit secured the Burma Road in 1945. Frank owned and operated a dairy farm where he also raised beef cattle and horses. He was a deacon at Boston Baptist Church for sixty one years, where he was a member since age nine, and taught Sunday School. He was a member of the South GA Dairy Coop, American Dairy Association, Boston School Board, Boston City Council and Boston Cemetery Foundation. Frank was a historian of Boston and surrounding area, looked upon by many as an authority of local historical matters.
He is survived by sisters Jacquelyn Wiggins John Valdosta, GA; and Betty Anthony Howard, Rockville, MD. He is also survived by daughters Irene Norton Clark Frank Pittsburgh, PA; Louise Norton Parrish Robert R. Birmingham, AL; Darlene Norton Rayburn Jim, Thomasville, GA; Lisa Norton Redfearn Jack, Hartselle, AL; Glenda Norton Stringer Hank, Metcalf, GA; Rahn Norton Greene Ralph, Jacksonville, FL. And, grand daughters, Pam Clark Heyler Scott, Colorado Springs, CO; Karen Clark Garrett Brad, Indianapolis, IN; Kim Redfearn Jett Grady, Montgomery, TX; Jennifer Stringer LaMarr Taron, Thomasville, GA; Ashley Dukes, Thomasville, GA; Allison Rayburn, Thomasville, GA. And, grandsons Brian Parrish, Hoover, AL; Chad Parrish Jennifer, Helena, AL; Jeremy Rayburn Jennifer, Forsyth, GA; William Rayburn, Valdosta, GA; Daniel Redfearn, Hartselle, AL; Robert Redfearn, Hartselle AL; Hal Stringer, Matt Dukes and Ben Stringer, Thomasville, GA; and by seven great grandsons and one great granddaughter.
