Services for Ernest Franklin Powers, Sr., 79 of Thomasville will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Dawson Street Baptist Church. Reverend Lee Waller and Reverend Mitch Conner will officiate and interment will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Mr. Powers passed away July 19, 2016 at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare. Born March 19, 1937 in Moultrie, Georgia, he was a direct descendant of General Thomas Moultrie and a son of the late Ernest Powers and Louise Millings Powers. Affectionately known as “Doodle”, he was raised on a family farm in Hartsfield, Georgia and graduated from Moultrie High School in 1956. After graduation, Mr. Powers started working at Sunnyland Foods where he met his wife Nancianne Southerland Powers. They were married at Dawson Street Baptist Church on June 13, 1959. Mr. Powers then began working at Allen Electric. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1960 and was stationed at Fort Devens in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. After serving in the army for two years, they returned to Thomasville, Georgia. Mr. Powers resumed working at Allen Electric where he was a devoted employee for 28 years. In January of 1990, Mr. Powers purchased B & B Electric Motor Service which became Powers Electric Incorporated. He served and met the electrical needs of the greater Southeast in the areas of agriculture, industrial, commercial and residential until the time of his death. Mr. Powers never met a stranger and often considered and treated his customers as close friends and family. He was a member of Dawson Street Baptist Church. Mr. Powers had the heart of a servant and often shared the love of the Lord through buying meals for strangers and distributing home grown fruits and vegetables to many of his customers and families. Mr. Powers was proceeded in death by his wife of 56 years, Nancianne Southerland Powers, son, Isaac Lamar Powers, and brother Max Lamar Powers. He is survived by his children, Leanna Powers Sculley (Ronnie) of Thomasville, Arthur Powers (Heather) of Thomasville, and Ernest Franklin Powers, Jr. “Buddy” (Penelope) of Las Vegas, Nevada; grandchildren Bryan Sculley, Kristen Sculley, Stephanie Sculley, Max Powers, Branden Powers, Kyle Powers, Hunter DeVaney, Haley Roberts, Wyndham Powers, and Remmington Powers; sister, Norma Powers Prince of Fitzgerald; sister-in-law Janella Southerland Murphy of Thomasville; and several nieces and nephews.
