Graveside memorial services for Frieda Patterson Spangle, 91, are at 11:00AM on Saturday, March 11, 2006 in Laurel Hill Cemetery on Mississippi Street. The Rev. Keith Hill will officiate. Mrs. Spangle passed away peacefully, March 8 after a period of declining health in the Presbyterian Home in Quitman, GA. A long time resident of Thomasville, GA, Mrs. Spangle was born there on April 25, 1914. She was the eldest daughter of James Lloyd and Marie Fink Patterson. She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Jimmie Lanigan and Kitty Bohler. Mrs. Spangle was a graduate of Thomasville High School and Fifth Ave. Hospital, New York City. She served in the United States Army Nurse Corps. for four years during WWII. Three years of this time in the South Pacific and ending in the China Burma India Theater of war. She married Harold H. Spangle, March 17, 1946 and he preceded her in death on September 8, 1988. A son, Harold Henry Spangle, Jr. preceded both parents in death, on December 19, 1979, leaving behind a daughter, Christi Spangle, of Atlanta, GA. Mrs. Spangle is also survived by a daughter Marianne S. Venmar and her husband, Richard S. Venmar of Montpelier, VT. They have two daughters, Katherine Tamara and Jaime Marie Venmar, both of Montpelier. Leading an active life, she was an early member and Treasurer of the Thomasville Arts Guild. Known for her gift of gardening, she assisted and served in the formation of a Garden Therapy Program for Southwestern State Hospital up until 1968. A member of the First Presbyterian Church, she served as a Circle Chairman and a term as President of the First Presbyterian Women Of The Church. Other memberships included being a charter member of Friends Of The Library , a member of the Cultural Center, Lapham Patterson House Alliance, and more recently, as active participant with Thomasville?s Historical Society, and member or The Writer?s Group. Her most recent accomplishment was publication of her autobiography, ?Long Age And Far Away?. Memorials may be made to the Thomasville Historical Society, P.O.
