Colonel Gene C. Davis, (Retired) U.S. Army, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 11, 2024, with his beloved wife Katherine by his side. He was 91 years old. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Millie K. Davis.
Born and raised in Carthage, Tennessee, Gene graduated from Tennessee Tech and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. His distinguished military career included service in the Vietnam War, Korea, Germany, and Washington, D.C., at the Pentagon. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his exemplary service during the Vietnam War and retired in 1981 with the rank of Colonel.
In 1982, Gene and his family relocated to Thomasville. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and at the age of 77, he fulfilled a lifelong dream by going on safari in Africa with his eldest son. His diverse talents also included being a skilled carpenter, an amazing cook, and uproariously funny—always charming and gracious, a true gentleman. His adventurous spirit and warm personality made a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Colonel Davis is survived by his wife Katherine; three children, Gene, Patrick, and Jennifer, and their spouses; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Colonel Gene C. Davis’s legacy of service, resilience, and joy will be cherished by all who had the honor of knowing him.
A service will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at 2 p.m. at the Allen & Allen Celebration of Life Chapel, with a visitation prior from 1-2 p.m.
