A memorial service for George Albert Herring, 69, of Boston will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday March 5, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church in Thomasville. Rev. Eric Tinsley will officiate. Mr. Herring passed away peacefully at his home March 2, 2011 in Boston. Born December 31, 1941, he was the son of the late George Jordan Herring and Christine Hayden Herring. In 1984 he married Ellen Faulk Herring, who survives. He attended Thomasville High School graduating in 1961, where he was a star athlete. He spent most of his life as a farmer in the Boston area where he loved the land. An avid outdoorsman, he loved being in the woods and teaching younger people the beauty he saw in God's nature. No other love was greater than that of being with his family and friends. He often quoted, "the crown jewels of my life on earth are my children-I have lived a rich life." He is survived by sons George P. Herring and wife Sandra of Atlanta, David Allen Herring of Columbia MO, Anthony G. Herring and wife Sabine of Boston, daughter Catherine L. Herring of Atlanta, sons Joseph Woodson Herring and wife Alacia of Boston, Mitchell Jordan Herring of Boston; brothers Lawrence Herring and wife Patricia, Michael Herring and wife Nancy; sisters Joan Herring, Virginia Beckham and husband Wayne, Beth Glausier and husband Robert; brother-in-law Philip H. Faulk and wife Sissy; sister-in-law Charity Manwaring and husband Ken, sister-in-law Elizabeth Boo Ivey and husband Rick. He is also survived by his lifelong best friend and fellow sportsman, Emmitt "Buck" Mitchell. In counting his blessings, he enjoyed 9 grandchildren and the most wonderful nieces and nephews a man could have. He was preceded in death by a brother John Woodson Herring. The family will receive visitors Friday, March 4, 2011 between the hours of 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm at the home of his son, Tony Herring, 146 Old US 84, Boston, Ga.
