Memorial services for George Wiley Burton of Shell Point, FL will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 20, 2015 at Allen and Allen Funeral Home Chapel, Thomasville, Georgia. George passed away December 15, 2015. He was born on March 1, 1925 to the late Herbert and Ila Burton of Thomasville, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his beloved Kaye Walter. Surviving family includes brother-in-law, James Knepton and sister, Mary (Burton) Knepton; daughter, Jennifer (Burton) Medders and husband Ashley, son, Jeff and his wife Lynn; Susan Richarson (Kaye's daughter) of Summerville, South Carolina. He was blessed with grandchildren Burton Medders, Korey Burton, Dylan Burton, Chris Burton, and Scott Burton of Thomasville and Robbie and Rachel Richardson of Summerville, South Carolina. George graduated from Thomasville High School and attended photography school in New Haven, Connecticut. He was in the United States Air Force. He returned to the family farm in Thomasville in 1948 to join the Dairy Production started by his father in 1946. George was also a past President of the Thomas County Farm Bureau from 70-72 and a past member of the Thomasville Exchange Club. After retiring from the Dairy business, he owned G & W Manufactured Homes and later moved to Shell Point, Florida. He then joined FEMA and worked disaster relief including a year in Miami during the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew. After permanently retiring, George and Kaye enjoyed their time together with family and friends at Shell Point where they lived life to the fullest. He was a loving father, grandfather, and friend to many who knew him. He will be greatly missed. He is also preceded in death by sisters, Nellie Burton, Jewell (Judy} Hewitt, Alice Vanhuss, brother, Harold Burton, and son, David Burton.
